On Friday 1st February, we were honoured to host a morning with Stuart Robinson and Tony from the Sports for Schools organisation. Tony (our Sportivator for the day) led the children through a timed workout of a selection of different exercises for which the children had been sponsored by friends and family. The money raised will be used to help athletes like Stuart train for Team GB and to buy new sports equipment for the school. The children loved the activities and everyone had lots of fun whilst keeping fit and healthy at the same time.
The morning finished with an inspirational assembly from Stuart where he spoke about children aiming to be the best they can be, both in sport and in life in general. Stuart was serving in Afghanistan as a RAF corporal when his vehicle was hit by a Taliban bomb. He had to have both legs amputated but has not let this hold him back. Stuart spoke about how he took up wheelchair rugby and how this helped him in his rehabilitation. Since then, his hard work and determination has helped him achieve huge success in the sporting arena. He has represented the country at the Invictus Games, European Championships and attended the Paralympic Games in Rio. The children were star-struck after meeting Stuart and loved hearing first-hand about his sporting endeavours. It was a most inspiring experience for children and staff and we are grateful to Stuart for his time.
