History is a constant phenomenon. We believe that it is vital that children learn from the past so that it leads to a better future, not just on a daily basis so that children can learn from their own mistakes but from a wide variety of events and significant individuals in the past.
Learning about different societies through the ages gives children the opportunity to alter their perceptions and develop discussion. History allows children to recognise the links between the past and the modern society. We believe that history encourages deep thinking and nurtures children’s inquisitiveness.
We will teach children how to research and gather information as well as evaluate the reliability of different sources. We believe that visiting historical sites enhances learning and enthuses children as they engage interactively with artefacts and places of interest.
Our vision is that children at Ormsgill Nursery & Primary School leave with an open mind and the ability to question and interpret, based upon knowledge taught. We aim to ensure children become well-rounded citizens who are able to make informed choices and make valuable contributions to society.
