R.E. Vision Statement
Our curriculum teaches pupils to develop respect for others, including people with different faiths and beliefs and helps to challenge prejudice. We provide opportunities for children to develop positive attitudes and values and to reflect upon their role in their community and the wider world.
Our school curriculum for religious education is in accordance with Schedule 19 to the School Standards and Framework Act 1998, which is the key document in determining the teaching of RE is the locally agreed syllabus within the LA concerned.
Religious education is statutory for all children of compulsory school age. Parents have the right to request that their child be excused from all or part of the RE provided. They do not have to give a reason and the school must comply with their request.
Our school RE curriculum is based on the Cumbria LA’s Agreed Syllabus and it meets all the requirements set out in that document. Every locally agreed RE syllabus must reflect the fact that the religious traditions in Great Britain are in the main Christian and that it should, at the same time, take account of the teachings and practices of principal religions represented in Great Britain.
