*Spring Term - What are we learning?*
English - Key reading, writing, grammar, comprehension, spelling and language skills taught through a wide variety of text-types (adventure stories, explanation texts, play scripts, newspaper reports, poetry, historical stories etc...)
Maths - Revision of key calculations and applying all mathematical knowledge to solve word problems, gaining mastery in each area.
Whole-Class Novels - Brightstorm by Vashti Hardy
Science - Space / Forces
PE - Tag Rugby / Swimming / Orienteering / Tennis
History - Space Race / Technology Development / 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s
Geography - Map work

Music - Keyboards and singing
Year 5 will have PE every TUESDAY afternoon. This will change throughout the year so please
keep checking back for updates!
Please ensure your children have the following PE kit items every PE day:
- Yellow PE shirt (COMPULSORY)
- Black shorts (COMPULSORY)
- Black pumps (COMPULSORY)
- Trainers for when we're lucky enough to go outside (OPTIONAL)
- Outdoor bottoms / jacket (OPTIONAL)
- All jewellery is to be removed before every PE session and long hair is expected to be tied back.
Year 5 will start their swimming lessons on Thursday 16th January 2020 and will continue every Thursday for the foreseeable future. Please ensure your children have appropriate swimwear and a towel each week.
Year 5 will receive homework every Monday which will be due in the following Monday.
The homework will consist of practising key mathematical calculations, times tables, spellings and reading. There may also be added information on the types of things we will be looking at the following week.
If children do not complete their homework, they will be expected to do it in their own time within school hours.
