*Summer Term - What are we learning?*
English - Key reading, writing, grammar, comprehension, spelling and language skills taught through a wide variety of text-types (formal and informal letters, playscripts, diary entries, classic poetry, stories with historical settings, non-chronological reports, explanations, biographies etc.)
Maths - Revision of all learning in Autumn and Spring Term learning as well as fractions, decimals and percentages, angles, translations, co-ordinates, symmetry, reflection, units of measurement (imperial and metric), converting units of time and timetables, volume and capacity)
Whole-Class Novel - Letters From The Lighthouse by Emma Carroll
Science - Forces / Human growth and development / Lifecycles of mammals, amphibians, insects and birds / life process of reproduction in some plants and animals
PE - Tennis, Swimming, Cricket, Athletics
History - World War Two
Geography - Where In The World? (Revision of continents, oceans, time zones, climate zones etc...)
ICT - Coding including SAMLABS, key skills, internet safety
Art - Pablo Picasso
Design and Technology - Design and make a vehicle
British Values - Democracy
RE - Buddhist worship and beliefs
PSHE - Relationships
French - Key vocabulary revision (numbers to 60, common greetings etc.), school subjects, French celebrities, Cultural Study - Claude Monet
Music - Keyboards and singing
Year 5 will have PE every FRIDAY afternoon. Swimming will begin on Thursday 22nd April 2021.
Please ensure your children have the following PE kit items every PE day:
- Yellow PE shirt (COMPULSORY)
- Black shorts (COMPULSORY)
- Black pumps (COMPULSORY)
- Trainers for when we're lucky enough to go outside (OPTIONAL)
- Outdoor bottoms / jacket (OPTIONAL)
- All jewellery is to be removed before every PE session and long hair is expected to be tied back.
Year 5 will receive homework every Monday which will be due in the following Monday.
The homework will consist of practising key mathematical calculations, times tables, spellings and reading. There may also be added information on the types of things we will be looking at the following week.
If children do not complete their homework, they will be expected to do it in their own time within school hours.
