*Autumn Term - What are we learning?*
English - Key reading, writing, grammar, comprehension, spelling and language skills taught through a wide variety of text-types (adventure stories, explanation texts, play scripts, newspaper reports, poetry, historical stories etc...)
Maths - Place Value of numbers up to 1,000,000; the four operations; negative numbers; rounding; problem solving; Roman numerals; times tables revision; statistics; perimeter and area.
Whole-Class Novels - Michael Morpurgo - Beowulf, Cressida Cowell - How To Train Your Dragon, Onjali Q. Raúf - The Boy At The Back Of The Class
Science - Properties and Changes of Materials
PE - Dance (The Haka), Gymnastics, Football, Health-Related Fitness (circuits etc.)
History - Anglo-Saxons and The Vikings
Geography - Scandinavian countries, trade links and economy, Extreme Earth (volcanoes, earthquakes, tsunamis, structure of Earth, tornadoes etc.), revision of seven continents and five main oceans
ICT - Coding, key skills
Art - Colour wheel, blending and shading
Design and Technology - Design and make a historically accurate Viking longship that floats and holds Lego ‘Vikings’, kitchen safety and food hygiene, traditional Viking recipes
British Values - Democracy
RE - Where does the Christian Bible come from? Why is Mohammed important to Muslims?
PSHE - Being Me In The World, Celebrating Difference
French - Key vocabulary revision (numbers to 60, common greetings etc.), daily routine, school subjects, French celebrities
Music - Keyboards and singing
Year 5 will have PE every TUESDAY and THURSDAY afternoon. This will change throughout the year so please
keep checking back for updates!
Please ensure your children have the following PE kit items every PE day:
- Yellow PE shirt (COMPULSORY)
- Black shorts (COMPULSORY)
- Black pumps (COMPULSORY)
- Trainers for when we're lucky enough to go outside (OPTIONAL)
- Outdoor bottoms / jacket (OPTIONAL)
- All jewellery is to be removed before every PE session and long hair is expected to be tied back.
Year 5 will receive homework every Monday which will be due in the following Monday.
The homework will consist of practising key mathematical calculations, times tables, spellings and reading. There may also be added information on the types of things we will be looking at the following week.
If children do not complete their homework, they will be expected to do it in their own time within school hours.
