English - Key reading, writing, grammar, comprehension, spelling and language skills taught through a wide variety of genres (Journalistic/Historical Fiction/Figurative Language through Poetry/Mystery & Thriller Fiction/Persuasive writing/Comparative writing (media and classic fiction)


Maths - Revision of key calculations and applying all mathematical knowledge to solve word problems, gaining a mastery of each area


Whole-Class Novel - Street Child by Berlie Doherty


Science - Light / Electricity


PE - Badminton / Swimming / Dance / Gymnastics


RE - Christianity


ICT - Coding and Key Skills


History - The Victorians / Victorian Barrow


Geography - Coasts

Design and Technology - Weaving / Victorian dollhouse 


Music - Singing / tuned instruments


PSHE - Sex Education / Transition to Secondary School / British Values


French - Revision of key vocabulary including numbers to 100

Important Information



Year 6 have PE every TUESDAY. This will change throughout the year so please keep checking back for updates!

Year 6 will be swimming for the first 9 weeks of term every THURSDAY. 


Please ensure your children have their PE kits in school on Tuesdays:

  • Yellow PE shirt (COMPULSORY)
  • Black shorts (COMPULSORY)
  • Black pumps (COMPULSORY)
  • Trainers for when we're lucky enough to do PE outside (OPTIONAL)
  • Outdoor bottoms/jacket (OPTIONAL)
  • All jewellery is to be removed before every PE session and long hair is expected to be tied back.

Friday due in Wednesday - English

The children receive two pieces of homework a week in Year 6 to prepare them for Secondary School. Children are also expected to read daily and learn their spellings/times-tables.

If children do not complete their homework, they are to do it in their own time in school.
