Welcome to Year 5’s Class Page.
This term we are learning all about life during WW2. We will be focusing on key events such as the Battle of Britain, and life on the home front, including the Barrow Blitz and evacuation.
We will link our learning to RE, by studying Judaism and the difficulties they faced during the Second World War. We will also be reading Emma Carroll’s story: Letters from the Lighthouse, which follows the journey of several evacuees during the war.
In Science we will be learning about forces. Linking this to parachuting and other aspects of war.
If anyone has any family history that they wish to share in class, we would love to hear it.
This afternoon we combined our History topic with a Geography. We watched a documentary about the Barrow Blitz during WW2, and looked at old maps showing affected areas. We compared these to modern day Google Maps and worked as a class to pin all the bomb sites in Barrow.
Did you know that Chester St, and Ormsgill reservoir were hit during the blitz? This made our learning very close to home.
We loved our trip to Barrow Library.
We retold the the adventure of James and the giant peach through Drama. It was a great session, full of fun and imagination.
